date: Tuesday, June 1
event: Kaleidoscope featuring Aesthete
time: 9:00pm
admission: $5
Tonight’s assignment: watch Michelangelo Antonioni‘s L’Aventura starring the lovely Monica Vitti whose performance as the film’s cool and detached protagonist personified European post-war ennui. Then go to Kaleidoscope and when Aesthete plays their song “Monica Vitti,” your task is to jump around with your hands in the air like you just don’t know the meaning of the word ennui. Then proceed through the rest of the night like the cool and detached protagonist you are. Pink Mist and DJ Ross Jackson round out the bill. |

date: Friday, June 4
event: Go Bang! featuring DJ’s Timo, Gelareh, and Mark Chittom
time: 9:00pm
admission: $10
In “It’s Your First Kiss, Charlie Brown,” Charlie’s kiss on the Little Red Haired Girl‘s cheek sends him on a blissful journey through pink clouds and yellow sunbeams. The effects of the kiss were so intoxicating, however, the next day Charlie couldn’t remember a thing. This is the kind of pure joy you will feel on the dancefloor at Go Bang!, only the next day you will be able to remember it (probably). Resident DJ’s Timo and Gelareh your mucial hosts. Mark Chittom guests.

current exhibit: Magnetic Fields Forever
artist: Gelareh Khoie
dates: Currently through June 17
In her fourth show at thirtyninehotel, artist and owner Gelareh Khoie creates a body of work based on a mystical continuum between nature and art. According to Khoie,“In seeking to understand natural phenomena and to translate its deeper mechanisms into a visual language, a path to self-knowledge unfolds. The knowledge becomes clear that art and artist are indistinct from what we label the “natural world,” and that all things in the universe exist in perfect accord: things are as they are and cannot be another way.”

incoming: Space Truckin’ featuring Mark Chittom
date:Saturday, June 12
We just missed National Star Wars Day on May 4, but in honor of the approaching Space Truckin’, let’s revisit. According the Christian Science Monitor’s website, the best quote from all the Star Wars movies is “Hold your fire. There’s no life forms. It must have short-circuited,” by an Imperial gunnery officer. The article continues, “Think about it: If this order had never been given, the escape pod containing R2D2 and C3PO would have been blown to smithereens, never reaching Tatooine. Luke would have lived out his days as a moisture farmer and would never have become a Jedi. Were it not for this Imperial officer’s efforts to save on ammunition, the whole story would have never happened.” What does this mean to you? Get off the couch and do something. Mark your calendars for June 12 Space Truckin’ with DJ Mark Chittom. Otherwise you might never become a Jedi.
